Welcome to DCCI: Opening the Cloud Doors
The SBD Fair was the Department of Cloud Computing and Infrastructure’s (DCCI) open-doors orientation on MS Teams — welcoming prospective and new university builders into what DCCI does and where cloud engineering can take them within AWS Student Builder Group PUP.
Technical Foundations: Demystifying the Cloud
I structured the Cloud Computing 101 keynote around everyday analogies before connecting them to enterprise mechanics:
- The On-Premises Bottleneck — Tracing the physical limitations of owning on-premise hardware: unrecoverable capital expenditures, capacity planning guesswork, and data center maintenance overhead.
- The Service Model Continuum — Clarifying the division of shared responsibility across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Deployment Topologies — Comparing public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid cloud use cases.
- The AWS Backbone — Why AWS emerged as the global infrastructure standard, and how students can leverage the platform for real-world career acceleration.
Following the keynote, co-speaker Roan Manansala unveiled DCCI’s technical roadmap — outlining study groups, hackathons, and certifications planned for the semester.
