Keynote Opening: Where Innovation Takes Flight
GDG on Campus PUP’s Cloud Solutions Onboarding was a multi-speaker virtual conference, and I opened the keynote with an analogy disguised as a story: suppose you are a talented chef and you want to open a restaurant. That analogy — the kitchen, prep ingredients, inventory, and sudden rush hours — became the lens for understanding what Google Cloud Platform actually solves.
Modern Cloud Architecture: The Five Pillars
The talk walked through the evolution of computing:
- The Legacy Era — Racking physical bare-metal hardware, manual provisioning, and the barrier to entry it imposed on builders.
- The Five Core GCP Pillars — Decomposing GCP into Compute, Database, Storage, Networking, and Identity & Access Management.
- Core Building Blocks — Introducing Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, IAM, and Cloud DNS.
Production Blueprint & Permission to Build
The keynote closed with an architecture walkthrough: a “Building a Scalable Social Web App” diagram mapping user requests through Cloud DNS, Cloud CDN, load balancers, container instances, and managed PostgreSQL databases.
The closing takeaway was simple: you don’t need permission to build. The tools are free, the documentation is open, and the only divider between an idea and a deployed system is the decision to start.
